GEGAC is looking for a dedicated, respectful, and knowledgeable person to join our Cultural Support Planning team. If you are well written, articulate and committed to quality service delivery, we want to hear from you. In this role you will be a key player in ensuring that the individual Cultural Support Plans developed strengthen a child’s cultural identity while implementing practical supports that help to enable connection to family, community, and culture. Your role will include (but is not limited to) working with families to gather meaningful information for the plan, consulting with professionals to provide support, advice, and direction as well as attending relevant Care Team Meetings.

GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based on Gunaikurnai Country in Bairnsdale, Victoria. Consisting of about 160 staff, GEGAC is a Not for Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services, Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.
GEGAC is a child safe agency and has a zero tolerance of abuse or neglect of children and young people.
Position Purpose
The primary role of this position is to ensure that referred child protection clients (children & young people) develop and maintain their particular Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander cultural identity to the maximum possible level. These clients are children and young persons who have been removed from their families and now in the custody of Child Protection.
Key Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal culture with the ability to liaise with and support the local Community.
- Demonstrated capability to meet the key responsibilities of this position.
- A sound knowledge of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander culture and in particular local Aboriginal Culture.
- Computer skills and in particular Microsoft Office, use of the internet and general data entry.
- A demonstrated ability to engage in a complex environment with children, young people, families, Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander people, Community, professionals, department staff and others to a high standard.
Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).
- Valid Driver’s License ESSENTIAL
- Certificate 4 or above in a qualification related to social work. ESSENTIAL
- A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL
- A person of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander background ESSENTIAL
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with mandatory vaccination directive applying to authorised workers ESSENTIAL
