This role will see you providing direct support to children and young people in the Kinship Out of Home Care system along with their carers. The role will commence at 22.8 hrs per week and will build to 38 hrs.

GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 160 staff, GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services, Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.
GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, with culture at the heart of everything we do.
Position Purpose
This is a position to case manage children / young people as they transition out of residential care and reside in placements where their needs are better met. The objectives of the position are:
- To provide high quality culturally inclusive case management to Aboriginal children who are supported by a Targeted Care Package.
- To achieve better outcomes for Aboriginal children in out of home care by having a creative, flexible and optimistic approach that is focused on developing new solutions.
- To ensure an active and collaborative care team approach to delivering the packages, which brings together cross-sector organisations and programs as well as to focus on a common agenda that results in long lasting change for children in care.
To contribute to program development and ensure adherence to the relevant DFFH Registration Standards and GEGAC Policies and Procedures
Key Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated understanding of challenges experienced by Aboriginal clients and commitment to providing a culturally appropriate service.
- Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously to develop, implement and manage effective case plans for multiple children or young people simultaneously.
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma and its impact on the development and behaviour of children.
- Understanding of the complex care needs of children and young people living in Out of Home Care.
- Knowledge of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005
- Ability to prepare high-quality reports, maintain accurate records and use computer based technologies for administrative practices.
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and organisational requirements.
Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).
- Driver licence ESSENTIAL
- Diploma of Community Services or working towards ESSENTIAL
- A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL
- A person of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander background DESIRABLE
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
