We are seeking an experienced and passionate Program Manager (Fire) to support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of Cultural Burning initiatives. This role involves liaising with government agencies, managing fire programs, and mentoring Gunaikurnai people in traditional fire practices.
As a Towera Program Manager (Fire), you will be responsible for:
Coordinating and supporting traditional burning programs, ensuring adherence to GLaWAC processes and Joint Fuel Management Plans.
Liaising between DEECA, Forest Fire Management, and GLaWAC to support the delivery of Cultural Burning projects.
Collecting and analysing fire program data to assess effectiveness and inform future improvements.
Facilitating training programs that meet the fire management needs of the Gunaikurnai community.
Building strong partnerships with CFA, local government, and private landholders to expand Cultural Burning initiatives.
Advocating for Gunaikurnai cultural governance in fire management spaces.
Ensuring compliance with relevant fire, environmental, and safety regulations.
Ideally, You Will Have:
Extensive experience in fire planning, land management, and stakeholder engagement.
Understanding of Gunaikurnai Cultural Fire Strategy and Victorian fire management processes.
The ability to mentor and support Traditional Owners in fire practice and land management.
Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills with government agencies and community groups.
Project and program management expertise, with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
Essential Requirements:
Current Victorian Manual Driver’s Licence.
Working With Children Check & Police Check.
Mandatory Drug and Alcohol Testing compliance.
Understanding of cultural governance and fire safety practices.
Commitment to working in a culturally respectful and collaborative environment.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
A qualification in science, natural resource management, or environmental policy.
Knowledge of Victorian Traditional Owner rights and self-determination in fire management.
Experience working with Aboriginal communities and understanding of cultural safety.
