Organisational Profile
GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 160 staff, GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services, Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.
GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, with culture at the heart of everything we do.
Position Purpose
Working within the Strategy and Compliance Division and reporting to the Quality and Compliance Manager, the Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S) Officer will work across all areas of GEGAC to provide advice, support and coaching on WHS best practice and risk management. The position will also contribute to the development and review of polices, processes, procedures and initiatives within the organisation that support a Healthy and Safe workplace and provide Quality reporting on WHS activities.
Key Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience responding to and investigating workplace safety incidents.
- Demonstrated ability to write reports.
- Demonstrated ability to audit processes.
- Familiar with the Occupational Health, Safety Act, Regulations and Codes of Practice.
- A sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office, use of IT / other software, office machinery and administrative processes.
- Demonstrated ability to work with staff across all levels. That such skill involves excellent communication, highly effective staff engagement capability and systematic process.
- Demonstrated attributes of leadership, teamwork, and the ability to work independently.
- Knowledge and understanding of risk management processes.
- Knowledge of safety related regulations.
Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).
- Driver licence DESIRABLE
- Qualification in occupational health and safety (OH&S) Certificate 4 or above ESSENTIAL
- Knowledge and understanding of risk management processes DESIRABLE
- A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL
- A person of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander background DESIRABLE
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
