Today we had the absolute pleasure of being part of the Bass Coast Jobs Expo in Wonthaggi — and wow, what a fantastic day!
We were proud to stand alongside a great mix of Gippsland and Bass Coast employers, all coming together to support our local community and connect with job seekers. From local government and community services to healthcare, retail, and trades — the room was buzzing with opportunity.
For us at Gippslander, one of the best parts of the day was talking directly with genuine, motivated job seekers — people of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences looking for the next step. Many were already familiar with our site and actively using Gippslander to browse job listings — which, honestly, was a bit of a pinch-me moment. We’ve only been live a short time, so hearing that locals already trust and use the platform was incredibly humbling.
We had great conversations about the local jobs currently posted on Gippslander, what employers are looking for, and how to navigate the job market right now. We also spent time chatting with people about how to improve their resume, how to stand out when applying, and most importantly — why persistence matters.
It was especially heartwarming to hear people's stories. Some had been struggling to find the right role, others were trying to re-enter the workforce after time away, and a few were just starting out and full of optimism. Whatever their situation, we’re proud to be a small part of their journey — whether by giving advice, offering encouragement, or connecting them to the right job ad.
It was also a great chance to share what Gippslander is all about:
- 100% focused on local jobs in Gippsland and the Bass Coast
- Helping job seekers find genuine, community-minded employers
- Supporting small businesses and organisations who want to hire local
We walked away feeling proud, inspired, and more committed than ever to growing Gippslander into something that truly serves the region.
We also want to give a big shoutout to the Bass Coast Shire Council for doing such a fantastic job organising the event. These kinds of days are more than just a room full of job stalls — they’re a chance for people to connect, ask questions, get advice, and feel supported. For job seekers, especially those doing it tough, events like this can make all the difference. The Council should be incredibly proud of what they pulled off — it was well-run, well-attended, and a great reminder of what’s possible when local government, employers, and the community come together.
