Gippsland and East Gippsland Aboriginal Cooperative (GEGAC) is a not-for-profit organisation based on Gunaikurnai Country in Bairnsdale, Victoria. GEGAC offers a comprehensive array of holistic, culturallyappropriate services across the lifespan of community members—from early years to the elderly. Primary Health and Wellbeing Division(PHW)
ThePHCWdeliversseveralprogramsthroughtwooperationalunits.
• Primary Health Care- focusing on the provision of social and emotional wellbeing services, medical and dentalserviceswhichconsistsofGeneral Practitioner (GP)services,ChronicHealth,HealthyLifestyles,KooriMaternitysupports Aboriginal Health Practitioners, a range of allied health service provision, and Dental Services.
• CommunityServices–focusingonEldersandIndependentLivingServices madeupof three programs.
1. HomeCarePackages (HCP):The HCP supports older people with complex needs to remain at home. There are four levels available under the program, with services range from basic personal care through to complex clinical care, with the program being delivered in a consumer directed manner.
2. Commonwealth Home Support Program(CHSP): The CHSP provides entry-level support for older people who need some help to stay at home. Service providers work with them to maintain their independence and keep them as well as possible.
3. Home and Community Care Program for Younger People (HACC PYP): which provides support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from birth to 50 years if their capacity for independent living is at risk. This may be due to chronic illness, mental health issues, disability or other conditions where they need one-off, intermittent or ongoing support to undertake the activities of daily living.
Position Purpose
To prepare and conduct stimulating, culturally appropriate and socially supportive activities and programs for Elders, People with a Disability and their Carers. All activities and programs need to be designed and delivered in accordance with best practice standards and program guidelines, and personalised and tailored to the needs of each individual. The goal of the program is to empower people, enhance independence by promoting physical ability, cognitive stimulation, good nutrition, emotional well-being and social connectedness and inclusion.
Key Selection Criteria
· Aged Care, HACC or Diversional Therapy qualification – with first aid and personal care component – minimum Level 3 Certificate.
· Knowledge of Aged Care sector standards and legislation.
· Experience in, or sound knowledge of Koori culture in East Gippsland.
· Demonstrated time management skills.
· Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict effectively.
· Demonstrated ability and commitment to teamwork and building a positive culture within GEGAC.
Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).
· Driver licence. ESSENTIAL
· Aged Care, HACC or Diversional Therapy Qualification – Minimum Level 3 Certificate ESSENTIAL
· A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL
· A person of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander backgroundDESIRABLE
· Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
