About the role

As an accredited Financial Counsellor, you will have specific knowledge about the credit, bankruptcy and debt collection laws, concession frameworks and industry hardship practices. You will be expected to provide direct case work in either in-office, outreach or via phone and support clients by prioritising debt; accessing hardship variations; advocating and negotiating with creditors; lodging disputes both within internal and/or external dispute resolution practices; making relevant referring to other services; and administering emergency relief (if applicable).

About you

  • Your skills and capabilities will include:
  • Demonstrated experience in financial counselling, including advocacy, complex casework and supporting clients experiencing financial hardship.
  • Experience leading, mentoring or supervising staff, with the ability to foster a positive, accountable and collaborative team culture.
  • High degree of interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships across community, legal, family violence and support services.
  • Self-motivated, with the capacity to work autonomously and effectively manage competing priorities, time and workload.
  • Ability to work in crisis-driven environments while managing a complex caseload.
  • A commitment to reflective practice, continuous improvement and achieving high-quality client outcomes.
  • Contributes positively to team outcomes and creates an environment where staff feel supported, empowered and engaged.
  • Resilient and able to persevere through challenges, change and complexity.

This role provides operational line management and practice support to a small integrated Financial Counselling and Family Violence team.

While the role works closely with family violence practitioners and services, specialist family violence expertise is not a requirement for applicants. Specialist family violence practice supervision will be provided externally to the Family Violence Practitioner to ensure best-practice, specialist support and professional development.

We welcome applications from experienced Financial Counsellors who are interested in leading a team and working collaboratively across both financial wellbeing and family violence service settings.

Qualification

  • A valid Victorian Driver Licence.
